the scout sign is made by raising your hand right hand to shoulder height. the three fingers of the scout sign reminds a scout of the three parts of the scout promise;
1.to do my duty to Allah and the country
2.to help others
3.to live by the scout law
The thumb and little finger stands for the bond that ties all the scouts together

as greeting scouts, scouters, persons holding non warranted or honoree rank, meeting for the first time in the any, salute when in uniform. saluting is respect
